Meeting the Moderns

From June 24 to July 4, 2021, in Paris, then from July 7 to July 15, 2021, in Antibes, Darmo Art opens up to the secondary market with a selling exhibition that will present works by major artists of the late 19th and 20th centuries. The works of late artists who all lived in Paris and the French Riviera will be on display: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Alberto Giacometti, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Antoni Clavé, Arman and César. 

The exhibition will begin in a historic artist's studio in Montparnasse, Paris, before moving to an iconic property of the French Riviera, the Bastide du Roy. 

The project 

After almost a year of closure of cultural institutions, Darmo Art wishes to recreate the link between artworks and their public. 

This exhibition has a special significance: 

• It pays tribute to two major artistic cradles of the last century: the Montparnasse district and the French Riviera. 

• It promotes and instructs on the practice of printmaking by demonstrating the range of effects, textures, and dynamics created by the different techniques used. It presents the main artists who knew, by their technical mastery and their creativity, to raise the graphic work to the level of the unique work by innovating in printing processes. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was one of the pioneers of modern printmaking, constantly seeking to develop new techniques. Pablo Picasso, on the other hand, innovated in the method of producing linoleum prints, working on the plates between each pass of a new layer of color. This method required a complete vision of the final rendering, giving uniqueness to each work while leaving no room for error, which would destroy all the work done so far on the plate in the process. 

• It highlights the diversity of sculptural practices, from small ceramic formats (Œuf by Joan Miró and Joseph Llorens Artigas from 1956) to monumental sculptures in travertine (Le Centaure, homage to Pablo Picasso by César, executed in 1994).
