Nothing Stays Where It Should

In his paintings, Swann Ronné explores instability, displacement, and the fragile balance between structure and unpredictability. Repeated bands, zones, and fields of colour appear to follow an established order, yet something systematically shifts: a change in tone, a slight displacement, a variation that unsettles the entire composition.

This tension extends into the material itself. Working with highly diluted washes of paint, Ronné allows colour to spread, flow, and partially escape the control of the gesture. His practice lies in containing this freedom without neutralising it, bringing together precision and overflow, constraint and spontaneity.

Neither strictly figurative nor conceptual, the works invite projection and personal interpretation. The feeling of never being entirely in the right place — of constantly searching, moving, and rebuilding a sense of balance — resonates with a contemporary experience of mobility, where greater freedom of movement also makes the very notion of “place” increasingly unstable.
