FRAMING
A collection built at scale is not the sum of its acquisitions. Past a certain size, it needs a thesis, a history it can be read against, and someone who keeps track of both. This is where most large collections lose their coherence: acquisitions accumulate faster than the research and the documentation that should accompany them.
Our team of art historians exists to close that gap; bringing to each stage the depth of research that a collection of this scale requires.
OUR INTERVENTIONS
Building collections
For organisations, families, foundations and institutions building a collection at scale. Definition of the thesis, research conducted with our team of art historians, identification of works on and off the market, negotiation, conduct of the acquisition.
Active management
Periodic valuation reporting, monitoring of the market for represented artists, opportunistic arbitrage, sourcing of strategic acquisitions, upkeep of the work files. Formalised through an annual mandate.
Strategic acquisitions
Identification, securing and negotiation of works. Historical analysis by our in-house team of historians and researchers.
Sales
Conducted across the full range of channels: public auction, private sale via auction house, sale to an identified collector, professional sale between dealers, institutional sale.
Research & provenance
Our team of historians conducts, for each significant work, the research needed to establish, consolidate or revise its provenance. Often the principal source of revaluation.
THREE DOMAINS
Strategy, legal, transactions.
Large-scale collections
Building and managing collections of scale. A collection of hundreds or thousands of works. The foundations of a future museum. A collection that has outgrown informal oversight.
