EDOUARD-MARCEL
SANDOZ
1881 - 1971

While his destiny seemed to be set, Edouard-Marcel Sandoz emancipated himself from his industrial heritage and embraced his destiny as an artist. With his knowledge of life sciences, chemistry, botany, art history and painting, he became one of the most renowned animal sculptors of his time, the great master of animal morphology. Combining the technique of the Italian Renaissance masters and the manufacturing secrets of the oriental slingers, Sandoz delivers realistic, supple models and plays subtly with volumes and lines.
"On the wall of my studio it is written: "IN ART YOU MUST LOVE EVERYTHING: NATURE, SCIENCE AND YOUR NEIGHBOR". I could have said flowers, animals and one's neighbor. Thus you know my way of thinking" - Edouard-Marcel Sandoz, 1961
