Of Flowers and Layers

As part of the 2025 artist residency at La Bastide du Roy, Darmo is pleased to present ‘Of Flowers and Layers’, an exhibition featuring works by artist Pauline d’Andigné.

Darmo first discovered Pauline d’Andigné’s work in 2018, at the very beginning of her career. Since then, we’ve had the joy of supporting an artist whose recognition continues to grow, and whose work now holds a distinctive place on the contemporary art scene.

Bringing together a selection of new works conceived as a sensory journey, the exhibition unveils a vibrant body of work, where material is altered, repeated, and unfolded into space.

In Pauline d’Andigné’s practice, gesture is both intuitive and controlled. Stains, floral motifs, industrial grids — each image seems to emerge from a dialogue between spontaneity and structure, between appearance and erasure. Surfaces are worked, scratched, layered, sometimes bleached, revealing floating forms and shifting imprints. The works do not impose themselves; they vibrate, oscillate, and invite close looking.

The exhibition reveals a world where painting becomes trace, memory, sensation. The motif is never fixed: it remembers, it fades, it returns. In this ongoing search for balance between order and accident, Pauline d’Andigné explores the memory of images, the textures of the everyday, and the way they can suddenly tip into poetry.

Through this exhibition, the artist returns to the fundamentals of her practice: a sensitive exploration of form and material, in a constant movement between familiarity and strangeness.
